Hippodrome Merano

Merano's Maia Hippodrome

Merano's Maia Hippodrome is one of the most beautiful and largest horseracing facilities in Europe. It was opened in 1935 after a construction period that only lasted one year.

The Hippodrome is the setting for one of the most spectacular events in horseracing, the steeplechase. Some of the most important races in Italy take place in Merano.

The Forst Merano Grand Prix is run every last Sunday in September.

Another highlight at the Hippodrome is the Haflinger Race, a country-style race that is steeped in the local traditions surrounding the world-famous blonde breed of horses.

In addition, there are the respective derbies belonging to the two racing seasons: spring and summer - fall.
