The South Tyrolean Museum of History was opened in 2003 in the ancestral castle of the Counts of Tyrol.
An interactive tour through the castle complex, with its centuries-long history, illustrates the important themes of the region's past, its art and social history and everyday life during the Middle Ages.
Each room is devoted to a specific theme, from prehistory through daily life in the Middle Ages, up to the recollections of the 20th century.
In the keep visitors are given a detailed account of salient moments of the 20th century: multimedia stations, audio and video guides and an extensive collection of contemporary documents describe the long road leading to South Tyrol's autonomy.
