Avelengo and Merano 2000 in South Tyrol

Avelengo (1,300 m) is the ideal base for a wonderful jaunt through the countryside. Various riding stables in the village of Avelengo offer guided trail rides or pony riding tours.

On horseback at Avelengo. The Plateau of Avelengo gave its name to South Tyrol's very own horse breed, the patient and gentle "Haflinger".

Suggested hikes

The Kratzberger lake. A special adventure at Merano 2000 is the idyllic loop trail that runs from Piffing (mountain station of the cable cars) to lake San Pancrazio - Kratzberger lake. Starting from the mountain station Piffing follow the trail no. 3 passing the Waidmann hut up to the Missensteinjoch. The trail no. 4 (European Hiking Trail E5) brings you directly to the lake S. Pancrazio. Trail lenght: 10.2 km. Height difference: 130 m. Walking time: 1.50 hours. The small mountain lake, which is easily accessible to families with children, offers a stunning view into the neighbored Sarentino - Sarntal Valley. Return on the trail no. 18A.

The summit of Mount Ivigna is always an experience. Trail lenght: 5,3 km. Altitude difference ascent: 715 m. Altitude difference descent: 33 m. Walking time: 2.20 hours (start at Piffing) or 3.00 hours (start at Falzeben). Starting from the mountain station Piffing, follow the trails no. 18, 3 and 19A up to the Kuhleiten hut. Following the trail no. 19 you reach the peak of the Piccolo Ivigna. 50 meters below it starts the via ferrata to the Grande Ivigna. This passage is only suitable for surefooted mountain hikers. A climb to the summit of Mount Ivigna is always an experience. Both Grande Ivigna (2,579 m) and Piccolo Ivigna (2,554 m) are unforgettable experiences: the final metres of both routes are via ferrata climbing routes. These stone passages are only suitable for surefooted mountain hikers who don't have trouble with heights. Starting point is the mountain station of the cable cars or Falzeben.

Loop road from alpine hut to alpine hut with panoramic view to the Dolomites. Trail lenght: 12,998 m. Altitude difference ascent: 691 m. Altitude difference descent: 676 m. Walking time: 4.20 hours. Trail no.: 18, 17, 18A, 14, 13, 13A, 10, 13A, 4, 14, 18. The Mountain Hut Hike is a special highlight of the Merano 2000 hiking area: the loop hike leads by picturesque mountain huts. All of the mountain huts offer sit-down restaurant service, spacious sun terraces and cuisine typical of the region. There are different ways to abbreviate so that also families with small kids can enjoy the hiking route.

Dolomites view from Mittager. Starting from the mountain station Piffing on the trails no. 18A, 17 and 14 up to the Kirchsteiger hut. On the trail no. 13A up to the Mittager hut or take the chairlift to the mountain station. Following the trail no. 13A to the Windspitz and the Großer Mittager. Descent the path no. 13 to the Kesselberg hut and the Missensteinjoch. Return to Piffing following the trail no. 3. Trail lenght: 13 km. Altitude difference ascent: 640 m. Walking time uphill: 2.00 hours. Total walking time: 4.30 hours.

Speedhiking Trail

The Speedhiking Trail "Val di Nova - valley station to Merano 2000 summit station" is relatively long and flat apart from short sections, making it ideal for Speedhiking beginners. Trail: cable car valley station - middle station "Gsteier" - cable car summit station at the peak. Height difference: 1,270 m. Trail length: 7.9 km. Walking time: between 1.30 hours and 4.30 hours, depends on physical condition.

Panoramic bike tour over hills

Explore the recreational area of Merano 2000 with your mountain bike. Many trails bring you to stunning places with breathtaking views on Merano and the surrounding mountains.

Tour: mountain station of the cable cars - path no. 17B - Waidmann alp inn - Merano alpine hut - on trail E5 up to the Kreuzjöchl - Maiser Alm - Moschwaldalm (trail no. 15) and back to the starting point passing by Falzeben (trail no. 51, 14). For active bikers: Kreuzjoch - Vöraner hut (trail no. 5, 2) - Leadner Alm - Waldbichl - Verano or passing by the Wurzer alpine hut towards Avelengo and then back to the starting point passing by Falzeben. Time: between 3 and 6 hours.

Bobsled Run

The Alpine Bob winds through the trees and over mountains terrain. The action, down the mountainside, lasts for over one kilometre. It has a 1.1 km descent, making it the longest toboggan ride in Italy. The two-seater lifts 12 meters off the ground.

Winter in this phantastic mountain scenery is an unforgettable experience. The skiing area Merano 2000 offers you lots of snow and sunshine. Kids (beginners and advanced) find everything they are looking for. A skiing paradise with well-prepared pistes, cared-for cross-country trails, toboggan runs and even beautiful snow hikes.

The wonderful panoramic road leads directly to the base terminal Falzeben (bus connection from Merano to Falzeben). However, the well-organised cable railway facility from Merano, can also be used to transfer you into the midst of this beautiful skiing area. You can reach Merano 2000 with the Ropeway from Naif or with the Gondola from Falzeben in Avelengo. The bus line 1A brings you directly from the station of Merano to the Ropeway and the bus line 225 to Avelengo - Falzeben.
